DescriptionWe all experience life in our own unique way, and as a result we construct values and ideas that help us better navigate the world we live in and the culture we are part of. New and challenging texts allow us to encounter different opinions, ideas and perspectives, and consequently help us better understand how and why we think the way we do.

This course encourages you to explore multiple perspectives and interpretations of texts, leading to a more universal and holistic knowledge and appreciation of text creation. Furthermore, it focuses on the skills and strategies of critical thinking needed to interpret texts and the process undertaken to construct logical and convincing arguments.

This course introduces the concept of critical perspectives as students are encouraged to engage with texts in a variety of ways, and realise that there is more than one way to read or view a text.
Subject Outcomes• You will be able to identify and analyse how texts can be interpreted from different perspectives, and how this influences the way they are read, viewed and understood.
• Students develop an understanding of the power of language to represent ideas, events, and people in particular ways and how texts challenge or support cultural perceptions.
• Develop skills and strategies to undertake critical reading examinations, familiarising yourself with the exam process.
Advice To Students• The course is designed for those who are interested in continuing on to Literary Studies in Year 12. Literary Studies in Year 12 is an analytical and language-rich program.
• Assumed Knowledge: Recommended for those who achieved ‘A’ grade or better in Year 10 English.
