DescriptionYear 11 Engineering is a STEM subject. Students need to be competent and interested in Maths and Science but do not need to be an outstanding academic student in this area.

Through a suite of programs and activities, students will develop a remote sensing device capable of completing a 'mission' based task. Students will develop a radio controlled vehicle capable of operating out of visual contact, utilising feedback and communication devices. Engineering introduces a “product life cycle” approach to Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics education helping schools and students to develop the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of advanced manufacturing processes and possibilities through a problem based learning approach. An engineering design process is followed to produce final products.
Subject OutcomesDuring the semester students are engaged in a series of Problem Based Learning (PBL) engineering challenges including the investigation, design and testing of sustainable, universally required and utilised devices. The students must use the engineering cycle to individually demonstrate an understanding of the problem, research potential background knowledge and present potential solutions.
Advice To StudentsIt is highly recommended that students will have successfully completed year 10 Science and/or Engineering. This ensures that the students have the background skills necessary for the subject
High levels of Personal and Workshop Safety are required by students working in workshops.
All costs for practical projects will be borne by the school.
There are no Pre-requisites for this course
Assumed KnowledgeSuccessful completion of Year 10 Maths and Science.
AssessmentAssessment will involve project work, practical reports and assignments.
